A selection of bird stamps
A selection of items from Lot 1783 - A thematic collection of Birds, declared ‘the most comprehensive collection ever seen’ by Stanley Gibbons auction department.
The collection, being auctioned 13th-14th March, runs to ‘eleven bulging albums’ and includes a Columbia 1935 10r 'Andean Condor'; with only 3000 stamps issued it is almost as rare as its real-life counterpart.
Other items of note in the collection include a Japanese Occupation of North Borneo 1942 2c 'Cockatoo', a Liberia 1941 First Flight overprinted set including 50c on 1c 'Tawny Eagle' and a set of five Taiwan 1950 ‘whistling swans’.
